DMN Burnett Blog: KB talks about his road game routine
Good News
by Kevin Burnett
At the end of this week or the start of next week we should have our first video blog up and running.
Due to the numerous requests I will talk about a road game and what happens off the football field.
Saturday
630 wake up
745 at the complex we don't have to be in early this is just a day where you relax have a walk through and get ready for the game.
800 team meeting Wade usually talks about the things we'll need to do to win the game. No turnovers, tackle, special teams, no dumb penalties things of that nature. He also lets us about schedule changes and what time we have to be at the plan.
810 defensive meeting reviewing the game plan and practice details from the day before. Normally we have between 30- 40 plays in our game plan per week not including adjustments and side checks.
830 break
835 defensive individual meeting we just review practice tape and discuss any complicated issues.
855 break meeting and go get dress for walk through (jerseys).
900 we are in the locker room having a ball laughing, rapping, playing jokes on each other just trying to stay loose before the game.
915 on the field for walk through. We have about 6- 12 plays the coaches want to see us perfect before we go to the game. We also do substitution packages' making sure everyone knows where to be at the right time.
1015 practice over
1045 I get home and take a shower and pick out the suit that best describes my mood for the day and the game. I think it's fair to say the bigger the game the better the suit. I also pack my bag and bring the simple overnight things. One thing I will not get on the plan without is my Bible.
1115 I should be leaving the house but I always forget to put something in my overnight bag so I don't end up leaving until 1130 or so.
1200 arrive at the check in sight. It's like a drag race getting to the plan you will always see other players, coaches, doctors, team personnel, racing toward the plan to not be late. It's like 14 or 15 g's for missing the team flight (player only).
1215 get your bags checked by TSA (Non sense who would try anything with a football team on board), get you, road money (40), tickets if you bought any (yes we do have to pay for tickets and jerseys, what a shaft).
1220 you need to be sitting down and eating because the flight is going to push back in about 10 minutes. On the plan the rookies have to bring food chosen by the older players on their own dime as well (8 road games feeding 15 plus hungry men gets pretty costly). The main food of choice is fried chicken from POPEYE'S. Each group has a rookie that is responsible for bringing food
12:29:30 Flow and 81 get on the plan
1230 we begin our trip
Look for more tomorrow
