2008 Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet Rankings: Tight End

By Hawk32, published Jul 11, 2008

All rankings are based off of a standard head to head scoring system (touchdowns, interception, yards, fumbles) in mixed AFC/NFC leagues.

For sleeper, breakout, and bust player picks, check out the key below.

BUST = player will register far below their 2007 stat totals
BREAKOUT = player will surpass expectations and/or have a career year in 2008
SLEEPER = player will be a late round pick or go undrafted and has a good chance of producing fantasy worthy stats in 2008

Good Luck to Everyone This Fantasy Football Season!

TIGHT END RANKINGS

1. Antonio Gates - San Diego Chargers
Gates beats out Witten simply because he is the number one pass catching option in San Diego and Witten isn't the number one option in Dallas. Gates should once again be good for 10 touchdowns and nearly 1,000 yards.

2. Jason Witten - Dallas Cowboys
Witten narrowly ceases the top spot to Gates, but he can easily put up numbers comparable to Gates. 8 touchdowns and 800 yards are a good bet for Witten in 2008.

3. Dallas Clark - Indianapolis Colts
With a much better quarterback in his pocket, Clark beats out Tony Gonzalez as the third best tight end entering the 2008 fantasy football season.

4. Tony Gonzalez - Kansas City Chiefs
If only Gonzalez had a decent quarterback. But either way, he finds ways to put up his numbers.

5. Kellen Winslow Jr. - Cleveland Browns
Winslow may just be the most talented and athletic tight end in the NFL, and he started to show why he is a top 5 fantasy option last season.

6. Chris Cooley - Washington Redskins
Cooley took over the role of premiere playmaker for the Redskins last season. Expect the same again this season.

7. Jeremy Shockey - New York Giants BUST
Bad attitude, bad temper, bad contract situation = bad fantasy season in store for Shockey in 2008.

8. Vernon Davis - San Francisco 49ers BREAKOUT
Well if you don't think Kellen Winslow is the most talented tight end in the NFL, then Vernon Davis definitely deserves this recognition. Now if the 49ers can ever get a good quarterback under center, Davis will start looking like a top 3 tight end option that he should be.
