DMN Blog: Everybody now agrees that Felix Jones is pretty darn good
by Tim MacMahon
Even sworn blog enemy Albert "Einstein" Breer of the Sporting News has figured that out by now.
Einstein came up with five thoughts from the Cowboys' win over Green Bay. No. 4 is especially interesting for folks who followed draft coverage on this here blog.
4. Felix Jones has become a bonafide X-factor for the Cowboys' offense, and with that comes a mea culpa. While Week 3 of a rookie year is no time to be making sweeping judgments, and I won't make one here, I'd say the Cowboys' decision to take Jones over Rashard Mendenhall -- one I drilled them for -- is looking pretty good.
I still question whether you can ever build an offense around him the way you potentially can with a back like Mendenhall, but there's little question that Jones' explosive, slashing style perfectly complements the skills of lead back Marion Barber, a stud in his own right.
A big part of it is the way Jones perfectly sets up his blocks, a product of outstanding vision and anticipation on the youngster's part. And then, of course, there's his second gear, with which he can pull away from the pack.
I'll call Einstein just to be clear, but I'm pretty sure he no longer believes that Ray Rice will be a better pro back than Felix Jones.
