04/05/09 - Pro Day wrap, Player Helped their stock: Jason Williams, OLB, Western Illinois: Not invited to the combine, Williams impressed first at his own Pro Day, running in the low 4.5s and then was even faster when invited to the Northwestern Pro Day, clocking in at 4.44 and 4.49 seconds in the 40-yard dash at 238 pounds. Williams could be the first non-combine-invite drafted. - Rob Rang, The SportsXchange, NFLDraftScout.com
04/03/09 - Jason Williams is going to earn his wings before the NFL draft. Maybe he'll even score a free future ticket. The Western Illinois linebacker is one of the hottest risers with just three weeks to go as he crisscrosses the country getting in 10 pre-draft visits. That is more than any other player we've heard of to this point as the visit season cranks up with teams whittling down their draft boards. Williams will travel or has already traveled to meet with Cleveland, Dallas, Green Bay, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Minnesota, New England, Seattle, Tampa Bay and Tennessee. Using the handy Air Miles chart on page 216 of the Bears media guide, that's 13,332 flown miles. Teams want to give Williams a physical and get a better chance to know him. The DuSable graduate started getting traction when he performed well at the East-West Shrine Game and then turned heads at his pro day March 4 when he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds with 14 teams in attendance. That was on a basketball-court surface though and there were some questions for a guy who is 6-1, 241 pounds. Some didn't believe he was that fast. Try faster. Any of those questions were answered when he showed up March 12 at Northwestern's pro day and ran again. This time, on a slow FieldTurf surface, he clocked in between 4.42 and 4.48 seconds according to scouts we polled at the event. The interest only grew. - Brad Biggs, The Chicago Sun-Times
03/16/09 - Western Illinois linebacker Jason Williams created a buzz last week at his school's pro day when he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds. Problem was, it was on the school's basketball court and most observers acknowledged you had to add at least one-tenth of a second to his time. So, he showed up at Northwestern's pro day Thursday and did one better, running between 4.42 and 4.48 on a much slower artificial surface in the school's indoor facility. The 2008 Buck Buchanan Award finalist, a DuSable graduate, boosted himself even more for the NFL draft. Seventeen teams were represented at the pro day, with the Buccaneers sending linebackers coach Joe Barry to work him out. Some of the scouts present admitted they showed up for one reason--to watch Williams. He wasn't invited to the combine but a good showing at the East-West Shrine Game followed by this has him moving up draft boards. He will visit the Bucs and has meetings planned with Indianapolis, Jacksonville and Miami. Although there is no meeting scheduled with the Bears, Williams said he met with Midwest scout Jeff Shiver at the college all-star game and has spoken to him a couple times since. Williams, 6-1, 238 pounds, projects as an outside linebacker. Keep an eye on him. - Brad Biggs, The Chicago Sun Times
