Four year starter with experience at both center and left tackle. Smart and plays with excellent technique. Tough and plays through injury. Unger can play all 5 positions on the line, making him the ultimate utility lineman.

Round 3: Lawrence Sidbury/ - OLB – Richmond – 6’2” 267 lbs.

Excellent frame. Shows solid pass-rushing ability with 11.5 sacks in 2008. Very active, high-energy player. I feel that OLB will be a higher priority because Greg Ellis could be traded on draft day and the jury is still out on former #1 Anthony Spencer. Hawaii’s David Veikune could be a fall-back option if Sidbury is gone.

Round 4: James Casey – FB- Rice – 6’3” 246 lbs.

Versatile player who the Cowboys are apparently considering at fullback. Casey has lined up all over the field in Rice’s spread offense and performed well in a wide variety of roles. Could also contribute as a quarterback in a Wildcat-type formation. Cowboys may have to trade up from the 4th round to get him, but I feel that anything sooner than mid 3rd - early 4th round is reaching for a player without a true NFL position at this point. Greg Ellis could be moved to facilitate a trade up back into the 3rd round.

Round 4: Johnny Knox – WR – Abilene Christian – 5’11” 185 lbs.

Speed-burning deep threat with 2,227 yards and 30 touchdowns the past two seasons. Solid candidate for slot and kick return duties. Provides a nice contrast to the long-striders this team currently has at receiver. Will need some polish and time to adjust to the pro game, but the potential is certainly there. Recent 4.3 40 time has his stock on the rise. Arizona’s Mike Thomas is another possibility as his ability in the slot and return skills would be a welcome addition to the Cowboys’ special teams and offense.

Round 5: Stephen McGee – QB – Texas A & M – 6’3” 223 lbs.
Solid physical specimen with the smarts and leadership skills to develop into a solid NFL quarterback. Team-oriented player open to coaching, should make for an ideal developmental quarterback behind Tony Romo and could develop into a future starter.

Round 5: Jason Phillips - ILB - TCU – 6’1” 236 lbs.

Smart football player, son of a football coach. Capable of calling defensive plays. Tough player who plays through pain. Good speed for his size and good awareness in coverage. Could start out as special teams contributor while he develops. Recent injury is the reason he’s still available in 5th round.

Round 5: Anthony Scirrrotto – S – Penn State – 6’0” 200 lbs.

Solid safety with excellent instincts. Reads and diagnoses plays quickly. Is aggressive in run support and not afraid to stick his nose in. Has experince as a punt returner as well. Not a flashy player, just a solid one.

Round 6: Bradley Fletcher – CB – Iowa – 6’1” 195 lbs.

Terrific athletic ability and solid size for the position. Matches up well with bigger receivers. Solid special teams player who can contribute in that role while he develops his game as a cornerback.

Round 6: Khalif Mitchell - DT - Florida - 6’5” 316 lbs

Big, tall 3-4 DE prospect. Has good size and athleticism and shows good hustle. Powerful at the point of attack. Strong tackler. Boom-or-bust proposition but worth the risk this late. With the contracts of several DE’s expiring next season, the Cowboys need to look to restock the position.

Round 7: Sebastian Vollmer – OT - Houston - 6’7” 314 lbs.

Raw developmental tackle with great size, Vollmer has intriguing skills. He showed better than expected strength in his pro day workout and has above average feet. Cowboys have shown interest and Vollmer has visited Valley Ranch.

Round 7: Antonio Dixon – DT – Miami – 6’3” 326 lbs.

Solid nose tackle candidate with the strength to stack linemen and stuff the inside running game. Able to handle the double-team. Above average agility for a player his size. While not a full-time starter, he won’t be asked to be in Dallas either, but could provide a breather for Ratliff at nose tackle.
