Dallas Cowboys Schedule Released with Usual Hoopla
by Robert Dougherty
The Dallas Cowboys schedule is always scrutinized more than many others, even when the Cowboys have little to show for it. When the NFL schedule was released last night, the Dallas Cowboys schedule naturally took up aDallas Cowboys Schedule Released with Usual Hoopla lot of focus, and prime time slots. Despite not making the playoffs last year, despite not winning a playoff game in years, and despite having no more Terrell Owens, the Dallas Cowboys' schedule still includes games sure to be among the most hyped of 2009.
Another primary reason for attention around the Cowboys' schedule is their new stadium. The NFL now has an official date for the Cowboys' new home to open, which is on Week 2 against the New York Giants on NBC Sunday night. Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington will begin trying to outshine the late, legendary Texas Stadium in an expected prime time slot.
Before that, the Cowboys are scheduled to visit Tampa Bay on Opening Day. The Buccaneers have their own new era to begin, with a new coach and quarterback.
After the home opener, the Cowboys' schedule takes them right back to prime time, as they host Monday Night Football against the Panthers. Additional night games include a visit to the Eagles in Week 10 on Sunday night, a road game at New Orleans in Week 15, and another road visit at Washington the next week.
The Cowboys will get the home-field advantage for the last game on the schedule against the Eagles on January 3, 2010. By then, they will know if their second straight season finale against the Eagles is for a playoff spot, and if they can erase memories of their humiliating final game at Philadelphia last season.
The Cowboys schedule also takes them to Denver, Kansas City, and Green Bay along with visits to their arch-rivals. Atlanta, Seattle, Oakland and San Diego will also visit their new home.
Fortunately, the Cowboys schedule doesn't involve any appearances from the Buffalo Bills and Terrell Owens. The upcoming season is difficult enough as it is. The games on the schedule look manageable - but so were the games last season, when the Cowboys were supposed to be on the road to the Super Bowl.
With Wade Phillips just hanging onto his job, Tony Romo's legacy starting to get questioned, and an impatient fanbase, the Cowboys have to start their new era with a bang to get a lot of people off their backs. Dumping Owens, Pacman Jones, and other distractions is supposed to help themDallas Cowboys Schedule Released with Usual Hoopla do that.
