Drew Rosenhaus: 'I'm confident Mike Jenkins will excel as a starting cornerback this year'

By Tim MacMahon

Mike Jenkins got a little Twitter love from promotional whiz/superagent Drew Rosenhaus this morning.

I'm confident Mike Jenkins will excel as a starting cornerback this year for the Cowboys. Mike is ready to assume a starting position @CB.

I'm confident that Orlando Scandrick will make it tough for Jenkins to claim the starting job opposite Terence Newman.

Based on their performance as rookies, you wouldn't be able to figure out which cornerback was a first-round pick and which was a fifth-rounder. You could make the case that Scandrick, who was consistently solid in the slot, had the best season of any Cowboys' cornerback. Jenkins showed flashes but struggled at times.

To Jenkins' credit, he isn't assuming anything. He wrote on his Web site that he feels like he's ready to start -- and his goal is to be "at least" a Pro Bowl alternate -- but he expects a good camp competition with Scandrick.
