NFC East: Still Beasts of the NFL In 2009???
by aldo singer
Everyone expected the Super Bowl contender of the NFC to come out of the NFC East, but we got the Arizona Cardinals instead. People thought the New York Giants were a sure lock with their 11-1 start, and the Dallas Cowboys always had the attention of the league. The Philadelphia Eagles defense always frightened the opposition and you never knew what you were going to get from the Washington Redskins.
The NFC East will once again be a competitive division in 2009. The Giants' schedule will be a little bit easier than it was last year, but they have a lot more questions to answer without the luxury or a No. 1 or No. 2 receiver. They always put together a strong draft class and picked up a few receivers in this year's draft.
The Dallas Cowboys unloaded Terrell Owens and will have Roy Williams to replace him. It's been said that Tony Romo and Roy Williams have been practicing and working a lot together during the offseason, but Williams will never be able to put up the same numbers as Owens. They get hot every season, but always seem to crumble somehow.
The Washington Redskins could easily be fighting for the number one spot every season but they've been plagued by constant coaching changes, which have affected Jason Campbell's growth. He's an amazing talent with a gifted arm, and given some time, he'll be able to put together some wins for the Redskins.
The Eagles are probably the most consistent team in the division. Just when you think they're out of the playoff hunt, somehow they lock themselves up a playoff spot.
There is no reason to believe that the Giants will not dominate the division again, however. Brandon Jacobs demands attention and wears the defense down. The Giants will have an answer at receiver to take the pressure off Jacobs.
The one thing that separates the Giants from the rest of the NFC East teams is the coaching. The Giants have a better system intact right now, and they'll have the opportunity to get, at most, 11 wins this season. The Giants will make the playoffs again, this time as a mult-dimensional team.
