Roy Williams: "Why am I a target?"

Coachable wide receiver Roy Williams doesn't understand where all this criticism keeps coming from.

First Troy Aikman seemed to throw him under the bus, then Deion Sanders. And then on Tuesday Aikman clarified his statements and said he thinks Williams is a good player - right about the same time Emmitt Smith was throwing him under the bus across the room.

To Williams, the constant questions about whether he can be a No. 1 receiver are unnecessary, since he's been a No. 1 receiver his entire career. Whether he's caught up in a backlash about the release of Terrell Owens, or the trade that brought him to Dallas in exchange for prize draft picks or a poor output last season, Williams says he's getting a raw deal.

"Why am I a target? I'm just a guy," Williams said Wednesday. "I'm a coachable wide receiver who does what he's coached to do. I'm getting grief from everybody. I don't know why, I've just got to go out there and prove to people that I can play this game."

Despite all the attention he's apparently been paying to the naysayers this spring, Williams now says he's going to just go about his business and prove everyone wrong.

"Every time I say something about what I do positively it gets turned around negative. I'm just going to continue to do what I've been doing and everybody can see what we can do in September."
