Third-best player in the NFL? One observer says it's Troy's DeMarcus Ware

CBSsports.com columnist Pete Prisco is out with his annual top 50 list of NFL players and climbing six spots from a year ago is former Troy star DeMarcus Ware.
Prisco has ranked Ware, the dominating pass-rushing linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys, as the third-best player in the league.

If Prisco's list weren't intended to spark arguments, then you might not argue his choice. Ware had 20 sacks last season for Dallas, his fourth in the NFL after earning All-America honors for coach Larry Blakeney's Trojans.

The Cowboys are doing a top 50 list of their own, counting down the best players in their history to celebrate the 50th anniversary season. Ware is No. 23 on that list - which is at No. 21 today.

That's pretty impressive.

I wonder where Alabama's Lee Roy Jordan and Auburn's Dave Edwards will be?

There are four more players with Alabama connections on Prisco's list: No. 20 quarterback Philip Rivers of Athens, North Carolina State and the San Diego Chargers, No. 44 linebacker DeMeco Ryans of Alabama and the Houston Texans, No. 46 cornerback Cortland Finnegan of Samford and the Tennessee Titans and No. 50 defensive end Justin Tuck of Kellyton, Notre Dame and the New York Giants.

Two Alabama-connected pros are on Prisco's just missed list - UAB's Roddy White of the Atlanta Falcons and Alexander City's Terrell Owens of the Buffalo Bills.

Prisco says that only a couple of fancy quarterbacks - Peyton Manning and Tom Brady - are better than Ware.
