JOHNSON CITY - Dallas Cowboys and former Tennessee tight end Jason Witten was eager to defend Tony Romo as a quarterback, give Lane Kiffin a chance as the Vols' new head coach and - most of all - move on from last season's soap opera starring him and former Dallas receiver Terrell Owens.
"Obviously, there was a lot of drama last season," Witten said Friday, referring to the controversy in which Owens, now with Buffalo, accused Witten of conspiring to freeze him out of the Cowboys' offensive game plan.
"T.O. was a great player, and we had some issues there," Witten said. "But decisions were made (to cut Owens from Dallas). And now we've got to move forward."
