DMN Blog: DeAngelo Smith agrees to terms
By Todd Archer/Reporter
Earlier in the day, linebacker Victor Butler agreed to a four-year deal and now the same can be said for the first of the Cowboys' three fifth rounders, safety DeAngelo Smith, who was the 143rd pick in the draft.
The signing bonus is not known, but the selection before Smith received $195,000 to sign and the pick below him got $192,300.
Smith played mostly cornerback at the University of Cincinnati, where he had 12 interceptions in his career, but he will play mostly safety with the Cowboys. His versatility was a big reason why the Cowboys drafted him. He can also return punts and the Cowboys want to see him become a special teams' mainstay at the start.
That's two rookie deals down and 10 more to go before the start of camp.
