DMN Blog: Cornerback Competition: Congrats!
By Tim MacMahon
Mike Jenkins doesn't see himself as being locked into fierce battle for a starting job.
"I'm not watching him at all," Jenkins said when asked whether he keeps an eye on Orlando Scandrick. "I don't feel like there's a competition, and I don't mean that in a bad way, so I don't want y'all to twist my words around. I just feel like we're coming out here, and both of us are doing the same thing we always do. We work hard.
"We congratulate each other and talk to each other. There are no hard feelings."
There have been plenty of causes for congratulations. Both second-year corners have consistently performed at a high level during camp. Neither one has given up a big play yet in 7-on-7 or team drills. And Wade Phillips marveled at their work during one-on-ones this morning.
"That might be as good as I've seen two corners playing one-on-one," Phillips said. "Scandrick and Jenkins were outstanding."
The Cowboys appear to have two capable, young cornerbacks competing for one job. It will probably be a difficult decision for the coaches because both players are making such strong cases.
