Frustrated T.O. Looks Ahead

Terrell Owens made what he called a heroic return from a broken ankle to play in the Super Bowl with the Eagles two years ago.
But sidelined for much of the last week in training camp with a sore hamstring, Owens said now is not the time to be a hero. He may be back this week in time for the preseason opener with the Seattle Seahawks weekend. And he may not.
The Cowboys gave him a three-year, $25 million contract to perform in the regular season not the preseason, he said.
Results of a magnetic resonance imaging exam were negative but Owens had no idea on Sunday when he would return to the practice field.
He called himself day to day.
"It's frustrating for me," Owens said. "It's not like I like sitting on this bike pedaling. Anybody who knows me knows I would rather be practicing. I just want to be smart with this thing and try to be healthy as possible so I can get back on the field."
Admittedly frustrated, Owens said it's better to be cautious so that it doesn't turn into a bigger problem later. He believes if he tried "to get on the field and open up it would make matters worse.
"You have to be really cautious and knowing myself I really want to try to push myself to get back out there," Owens said. "It's not going to do the team any good. It's not going to do myself any good if I get back out there, push it, and go beyond the limits."
Still Owens knows his absence is not making coach Bill Parcells happy.
Parcells said it isn't so much Owens' health that is frustrating, but the missed practice time in a new offense with a new quarterback does not help the Cowboys' offense.
"It's a little disappointing from the fact that we're hoping that he's a big part of our offense and he really hasn't been able to be out there that much," Parcells said. "Hopefully we'll get him back soon and go forward with it."
Could his injury be traced to Owens being suspended for the final nine games last year with the Eagles?
Owens said that could be a factor.
"It is what it is," Owens said. "I have to keep pressing. It will get better. It's not something I am going to panic about. Everybody wants me out on the field; I want to be out on the field. The fans want me out on the field. The result will come during the regular season.
