Mosley with notes from locker room
August 21, 2006
More notes from the locker room...
• Bill Parcells sounded like he was complaining when he said the defense didn't get enough time in the first half. The flipside is that the offense was moving up and down the field. The Cowboys held the ball for almost 38 minutes Monday. Parcells is a huge time-of-possession guy.
• I'm told rookie linebacker Oliver Hoyte had a big night on special teams.
• Parcells pointed out the fact that Tony Romo's fumble led to a Saints' touchdown. He did say that he wants to make sure Romo ends up with nine to 10 quarters this preseason. He's currently at six.
• Parcells bristled when asked if he was worried about the running game. Tyson Thompson led the team with 45 yards on 10 carries.
• Worst question at the postgame Parcells news conference: "Is Romo your go-to guy?" Parcells ignored the question. Romo already had 12 text messages by the time he arrived in the locker room.
• Parcells said he's giving Skyler Green every chance to make the team. Green has been back on every punt this preseason.
• Austin Miles couldn't stop smiling after the game. Asked why he banged his arm into his chest after the touchdown catch, he said it was a shoutout to his former teammates at Monmouth. "I was pointing to my heart!" By the way, that was called a "smoke" route. When Romo saw the corner bite, he gave a pump and Miles converted the out to a fly pattern.
• Left guard Kyle Kozier said he was not happy with the way he blocked in the running game. All the offensive linemen said the Saints were moving around a lot, which led to some mistakes.
• Rob Petitti said he's confused by the tackle rotation. He's playing left tackle for the first time since college. "I don't know what's going on," he said. I think the Cowboys are trying to decide whether to keep veteran Jason Fabini.
My ride's leaving. I'll file more from the casino if anyone's up. If not, it's been a great evening.
Good night and good riddance. Just kidding.
All my love
