DMN Mosley Blog: Henson trade speculation...
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has always been Drew Henson's biggest advocate. Well, last week was the first time I heard Jones pretty much rule Henson out of the club's future.
He quickly followed by saying Henson has a chance of starting somewhere else in the league someday.
That's evidence that the Cowboys and Henson are trying to plan an exit strategy. The problem, as our in-house capologist, Todd Archer, has pointed out several times is that the Cowboys will take a significant salary cap hit ($3.5 mil) if Henson is released.
I've come to know Henson pretty well over the past three years and can tell you that he is desperate for a fresh start. With rookie Matt Baker currently taking almost all his snaps, Henson's about to ask for a trade.
This was a Jerry Jones' venture from the start, and I'm not sure Bill Parcells was ever on board. Some of you are wondering why we're spending so much time on a third-string quarterback. It's because the Cowboys gave up a third-round draft pick and made a significant financial investment in Henson.
He has the talent to play in this league, but I'm more convinced than ever that it won't be here.
