Observation deck: Goal-line stand by Ayodele
By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News
• Inside linebacker Akin Ayodele came up with back-to-back goal-line stops on runs by Lousaka Polite and Julius Jones.
• Two of the Cowboys' recent bonus babies had a nice collision in the morning when Pro Bowl safety Roy Williams ($11.1 million signing bonus) popped Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten ($12 million guaranteed) on a hit that would have been much worse had Witten been the opposition.
• Two plays after Williams' hit, cornerback Anthony Henry broke up a perfect Drew Bledsoe throw to Terrance Copper in the end zone. Henry has been active the last few days.
• Scrambling away from trouble quarterback Tony Romo went into a slide and appeared to catch his leg in the grass but got up and did not miss a snap. Earlier, he threw a nice check-down touchdown pass to Jamaica Rector, pumping to his right and coming back to Rector in the middle of the field.
• Bill Parcells said he expects guard Stephen Peterman (ankle) to return by Monday. In his place, Matt Tarullo , normally a center, is seeing turns at guard.
• Owner and general manager Jerry Jones and other front-office personnel headed to Canton, Ohio, Friday for the Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremonies that are highlighted by the inductions of Troy Aikman and Rayfield Wright. Jones will then fly to Chicago for a league meeting in which a new commissioner may be elected.
• Drew Henson struggled in the morning workout, going 4-of-15 unofficially in seven-on-seven and team drills. He drew Parcells' ire when he was late with two throws to open tight ends. One of them cost the offense a touchdown when Jacques Reeves was able to bat away a pass for Ryan Hannam.
• Linebacker Al Singleton put a good lick on running back Marion Barber during goal-line drills. Barber went down like he was shot.
• The situation of the day involved last-second field goal situations in which the kicking team sprints onto the field from the sideline. Mike Vanderjagt pushed his 30-yard attempt to the right but made his second try.
