Receiver Terrell Owens and coach Bill Parcells had their first extended conversation of training camp, visiting for several minutes Wednesday following the morning practice.

"Eventually, at some point, I knew we were going to have a sit-down to talk and get familiar with each other," Owens said. "It was a good conversation."

The topic?

"Football, diet," Owens said. "Just having fun all across the board. My diet is straight. He was telling me what he does. He's eating healthy these days. He's slimmed down, even more so than when he was at mini-camp (in June). I kind of complimented him on his good shape coming into camp."

Out of whack: Drew Bledsoe must have sensed frustration rising in Owens after several misfires. So the quarterback made a pre-emptive strike. Soon after they went to the sideline, Bledsoe walked about 50yards to give Owens an encouraging pat on the rear.

Such an exchange between most quarterbacks and receivers would hardly be noticed, especially during the seventh practice of training camp.

So, T.O., is everything OK between y'all?

"Every day is a day of improvement," Owens said. "If we take a step back, we go back to the drawing board and we try to correct our mistakes and build on those the next day. Every day is critical, but it's no reason to panic right now."

Aiming to please: Owens has regularly stopped to sign autographs for fans after practice.
"I love it," he said. "Each and every day, I try to accommodate the fans at least one time during one of the practices. I know they're out here spending their hard-earned time and money to come out and watch us practice, so I try to go out and show a little love."

This and that: Parcells says the team passed on giving former Pro Bowl lineman Lincoln Kennedy a tryout. ... The Cowboys waived defensive end Vontrell Jamison, leaving them with 82 players in camp. ... Defensive end Marcus Spears returned to camp to start rehab after undergoing surgery to repair cartilage in his right knee. ... Safety Justin Beriault (concussion) sat out practice for the third-straight day. ... Kicker Mike Vanderjagt missed practice because he was sick, Parcells said.
