Bledsoe 'ready to go'

The scary hit suffered by Cowboys quarterback Drew Bledsoe in the preseason finale on Thursday night looked worse than it was.

Bledsoe, via a text message on Friday afternoon, said, “Feeling OK. Sore neck. Nothing serious. Ready to go.”

Bledsoe is expected to start in the season opener on Sept. 10 in Jacksonville.

At the 12:20 mark of the second quarter in the Cowboys’ 10-10 tie against Minnesota, Bledsoe collected a fumbled snap and “ran” forward for the first down. He collided with Vikings nose tackle Pat Williams.

On the next play, Bledsoe was pushed out of bounds by Vikings linebacker Napoleon Harris, who was penalized for roughing the quarterback.

After the Cowboys moved to the Vikings’ 10-yard line, Bledsoe attempted to handoff. But the play appeared to be designed for a pass. Trying to improvise, Bledsoe threw an ill-advised pass that was intercepted.

Bledsoe left the game after that, with Tony Romo playing the rest of the way. The veteran starter eventually returned to the sideline in street clothes, and left with a little less than four minutes remaining in overtime. He declined to speak to reporters after the game.
