Sizing Up The Rest Of The Division

It’s always dangerous to appraise teams after two games, but I’m a fearless blogger.

What have we learned about the rest of the NFC East so far?

Well, we watched Eli Manning grow up right in front of us Sunday afternoon. Funny thing, I turned the TV off right after Troy Aikman said the Giants must start proving they’re a good team. At the time, they were trailing 24-7.

Despite a Raider-esque performance from his offensive line (eight sacks), Eli erased a 17-point fourth quarter deficit and threw the game-winning touchdown to Plax in overtime. Impressive. Sunday’s close call might have woken up the sleeping Giants.

Philly? Aside from their meltdown the Eagles look as rock-solid as ever, and Donovan McNabb has a new toy to play with. After watching him underachieve for four years in New Orleans, Donte’ Stallworth has the fifth-most receiving yards (222) of anyone in the league so far.

As for the 0-2 Redskins, we’ve seen they’re vulnerable, but they weren’t playing at full strength against Dallas. A healthy Portis and Springs would’ve helped against the Cowboys, but the Skins’ schedule doesn’t get any easier from here. They play Houston and Tennessee in the next month, but their next 11 games also include Jacksonville, the Giants, Philly twice, Indy, Dallas, Tampa Bay, Carolina and Atlanta. Ouch.
