T.O. takes high road

By JENNIFER FLOYD ENGEL

IRVING - Dogpiling Drew Bledsoe has become a full-contact sport since his ugly Week 1 performance.
Cowboy Nation wants him benched. Most media types already had predicted that ending. Even coach Bill Parcells has tacked murky "right now" qualifiers onto his "I'm-behind-him" votes of confidence.
So if a certain initialed Cowboy wanted to pile on, add another QB notch in his already busy belt, nobody was going to blame him. Many would welcome it.
So what does it say that T.O. did what Parcells has been reluctant to, back his QB unequivocally, with an "I have all the confidence in the world he will bounce back completely?"
It says T.O. is actually being a "better teammate" and not simply saying so.
And it is in moments like these where I find myself vulnerable. I am tempted to give in to my Suzie Sunshine tendencies and actually believe this is not a random act of kindness but how he plans to conduct himself as a Cowboy.
History says he is going to make a fool of me, which is why I am holding off on any firm declarative sentences about "What a good guy this T.O. really is."
That said, T.O. deserves credit for refusing to add any fuel to what is already a scorching fire under Bledsoe's butt. Believe me, my brethren gave him ample opportunity Wednesday.
"Any quarterback questions, I am staying away from," T.O. said. "You are really punching me with those and I am not going there. If I change to defensive end, then we can talk quarterbacks."
Sentence I never thought I'd type: Parcells might want to take a lesson from T.O. on how to handle this QB.
Just a reminder: Quit jacking with Mike Vanderjagt.
The nice section: Seeing that me, myself and everybody else took coach Mike Leach and Texas Tech to task for his weak non-Big 12 schedule last season, it is only fair we give him props now. He is doing what the big boys in Austin and College Station will not do --travel to Fort Worth to take on TCU.
Just wondering: Why did none of Emmitt Smith's people tell him that, if Jerry Springer is participating, then it is Dancing with the Has-Beens?
That's an ender: Much-maligned Cowboys left tackle Flozell Adams talked briefly Wednesday, saying: "I don't care what people have to say" about his play.
Earth to Flo:
Your play already says your care level is low. What "people," namely your coach, are saying is that your attitude is sorry.
