The Mosley Afternoon Report
By Matt Mosley
IRVING - One of the nice things about Tony Romo becoming the second-most famous guy in the locker room is that it's easier than ever to land an exclusive with Matt Baker.
As the scout-team quarterback, Baker has been asked to play the role of Peyton Manning. On the surface, this might sound like a stretch, but according to my sources, Baker had the defense on its heels today in practice.
Scary thought.
In preparing for the role of his lifetime, Baker has watched a lot of film on Manning. He's even mimicking all the nonsense that Manning goes through before each play.
(Parcells said "about 90 percent" of his pre-snap routine doesn't really mean anything).
Baker, an undrafted rookie out of North Carolina, used his index fingers to make horns while shouting "devil" several times before one play. Several defensive players broke up laughing, which hopefully won't happen Sunday.
Baker said the thing that separates Manning from other quarterbacks is the "relationship he has with his receivers." He also called him the master of the "ball-fake," which allows the Colts to have a lot of success in the play-action passing game.
Manning is great at dropping the ball over linebackers, and that's why Bradie James, Bobby Carpenter and Kevin Burnett, among others, need to have solid games.
