Abandoning the run

Good post by turf-warrior from a sports forum:

In the last 4 games Dallas has run the ball a total of 66 times, 16.5 times a game between JJ and Barber. I would say this is fine if the RBs were used as part of the pass offense like the Saints or Eagles, but they are not. By giving up on the run game and playing an exclusively vertical passing game we put Romo under more pressure and increase the probability of 3 and outs. The first half of the season we ran the ball with greater frequency than most teams in the league and now we are at or near the bottom.

How often do we put Romo in 3rd and long because of this type of offense. Using the Eagles as an example, when McNab went down Garcia came in and actually created a more efficient offense with using the short passing game. They have more sustained drives now and take a lot of presure off the defense.

Even if the run game gets 3 yards on 1st and 2nd down, it's better to be in 3rd and 4 which is hard to defend, then 3rd and 10 because we attempted low percentage passes without success.

Just my opinion.
