MIAMI - Another Tony Dungy assistant may be on his way to getting a head coaching job.
Colts quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell reportedly will interview for the Dallas Cowboys' vacancy as early as today, meeting with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who needs to replace the retired Bill Parcells.
"I have a leaning but I want to try to be open-minded," Jones said after former Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin was voted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday.
San Francisco offensive coordinator Norv Turner is considered to be the leading candidate for the position. Jones also hired Jason Garrett away from the Dolphins to be his offensive coordinator and Garrett is a candidate as well.
Caldwell has been an assistant on Dungy's staff since 2002. Chicago's Lovie Smith, Kansas City's Herm Edwards and Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin are former Dungy assistants who are head coaches now. Caldwell, also an African-American, was Wake Forest's head coach from 1993-2000.
