Singletary is a prime candidate

Jerry Jones is doing the right thing, waiting to find the right man to be the next coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
I like the fresh faces he's talked to -- although Jason Garrett might be too green.
His two years as an NFL assistant aren't enough to take over America's Team. I do like the fact teams such as New Orleans and Cleveland have tried to gain his services before and that the Dolphins would not allow him out of his contract before Jones scooped him up.
Mike Singletary is the guy who could be the Cowboys' version of Avery Johnson.
Singletary could be the first coach Terrell Owens can trust and relate to on a personal level. You hear nothing but good things about the native Texan from people at his current job with the 49ers.
The Hall of Fame linebacker can relate to people, and that's where it starts. If you want to know the reason Tony Dungy's coaching tree has been successful, just look at how those coaches relate to their players.
Dungy and Johnson have shown us all that a man can still love God, make his family a priority, get maximum effort from his players and compete for championships.
Singletary can be the CEO of the Cowboys. Garrett can run the offense. I'm sure Singletary will want to choose his own defensive coordinator. This still allows Jones to have his say as general manager.
Last spring, I asked soon-to-be Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis how the Steelers were finally able to win a Super Bowl under Bill Cowher.
"Bill just let the guys [coordinators] coach," he said. "... That was really it."
There is some belief that the big reason the Cowboys didn't win more under Bill Parcells is because he tried to control everything.
I think Singletary could be the fresh face Jones needs.
Yes, Norv Turner is a retread head coach. So were Dungy, Bill Belichick and Mike Shanahan.
All three men were able to be fired from a job and take a team to the Super Bowl the next time they were given the opportunity.
Let's not count Turner's stint as the Raiders head coach.
Everybody knows Weird Al Davis has lost the magic that made that franchise special. Davis is controlling, vindictive and out of touch.
Ron Rivera is going to be darn good football coach. Chico, as he's called by his guys, is ready to be the man. I can't see any downside if Jones chose the Bears' defensive coordinator.
If I could get in Jerry's ear, I'd say hire Singletary.
