Romo has something to prove

To wait, or not to wait: That is not the question.
Not at Valley Ranch.
Not with regards to QB Tony Romo.
Talks remain "in progress" between Cowboys officials and Camp Romo on a contract extension -- despite him having a year remaining on a deal he signed in August. Obviously, Owner Jones and Co. want him locked up before crazy money is needed to do so.
The flip side is they kind of still do not know exactly how good he is.
Whatever side of this Romo debate you come down on -- Canton-bound or wait-and-see? -- this flaming rush to redo his redo is a mistake. Doing a long-term, big-money deal based on half a season has ugly potential. Really ugly.
What Owner Jones needs to tell Romo is "Tony, we love you. We believe you are our future. Now, go out there, prove me right and make me pay you Drew Brees kind of cash."
What Romo needs to say is: "Be prepared to pony up."
Because while my money says Romo earns himself a big contract with his 2007 performance, my bet is not punished by a salary cap if I am wrong.
Speaking of Cowboy quarterbacks: Brad Johnson provides a perfect backup for Romo, a mentor and a capable fill for very short spurts. What he is not is a reliable safety net in case of season- ending injury, or a viable option if Romo stumbles.
New campaign since "Sign Michael Young Now" was such a raging success: Now sign Tex.
Get your hanky ready: Heat guard Dwyane Wade has opted to forgo shoulder surgery, for now, hoping rehab allows him to return in time to benefit from phantom calls in the playoffs.
I just wish I had been at his presser to see him be wheeled in and start bawling about how much pain he felt in his owie. Or was that act already played out in the Finals?
Realistic new campaign: Hurry back Brenden Morrow.
From the what-in-the-world-was-he-thinking files ... : Now comes the tale of Peyton Manning. According to deadspin.com, he rented himself for a two-hour appearance at a Sweet 16 party for $200,000.
Seriously?
This dude was Super Bowl MVP, in every other commercial during the football season and worth more than the GNP of New Zealand, and he feels compelled to do parties.
Just wondering: Is anybody else starting to think 70 does not sound so crazy for the Mavs?
That's an ender: Acie Law deserved better for staying at Texas A&M. He deserved Big 12 Player of the Year.
