Ken Hamlin, S - Dallas Cowboys
froom CowboyMagic31's SportingBlog
FS 6-2 209 Arkansas 2003 #2 draft pick (42 overall) of Seattle
Strengths: Nose for ball, hard hitters, covers the field, QB of defense
Weeknesses: Off the field problems (the reason the talented safety fell so far in the draft) have continued to impact his career. Head injury suffered in 2005 off the field incident was the likely reason he was not resigned this year.
As a rookie Ken made the all-rookie team and had 4 int. Last year he recovered from his injury and started all 16 games with 3 ints and 11 passes deflected. He has experience now, and just needs to develop his talent on the field and avoid the off the field problems. He is the kind of player that a change of scenery can do wonders for. And he is still plenty young and talented, coming into his prime. The Cowboys signed him instead of choosing a rookie in the draft, because they wanted an experienced player in charge of the secondary to avoid the many breakdowns and bigplays that have plagued them over the last several years. Big plays, primarily from players being out of position, have cost the Cowboys many games. Hamlin is the player the Cowboys are counting on to pull the defense together, the new QB of the Cowboys' defense. With the improved, more aggressive passrush, together with his nose for the football, the Cowboys defense should be making many more big plays instead of giving them up. It is all a matter of playing as a team and being in position to make plays. Don't be surprised if Hamlin and Cowboys defense are AWESOME this year.
