DMN Blog: Ellis won't be a distraction

Ellis won't be a distraction
This is a prediction, not a promise, but I doubt disgruntled veteran Greg Ellis' issues with his contract will be a distraction for this team.

My feeling on this has nothing to do with agent James Williams' cordial chat with Jerry and Stephen Jones yesterday. For all I know, Jerry could reverse fields and renegotiate with an aging player returning from an injury. Hey, GM Jerry has done dumber things.

I just don't think Ellis has it in him to cause problems during the season. It's one thing to moan and groan about money during the spring. It's another to continue complaining during training camp and the regular season. My hunch is that Ellis is too much of a classy pro to whine when it's winning time.

Even if Ellis keeps complaining, I'm not sure the rest of the Cowboys really care whether he's unhappy. Terence Newman walked past the media horde surrounding Ellis in the locker room the other day and mockingly announced, "Greg Ellis is still disgruntled. He wants more money." T.O. repsonded by laughing and hollering, "Can't get it through the media!" Ellis' complaints seemed to be a source of amusement instead of a distraction.
