Giving Ellis more dollars doesn't make sense
Superstar columnist Jean-Jacques Taylor writes that consummate pro Greg Ellis shouldn't complain about his contract.
Ellis wants more money, but it's really about respect and security. Jerry's approach is all about business.
And it's bad business to throw more cash at a thirtysomething dude coming off a serious injury, especially when your first-round pick plays the same position. Ellis understands that, which is why he's asked to be released. But it's also bad business to expect a rookie making a position switch to be an every-down player.
So Ellis will stay in Dallas under a contract he doesn't like. He'll have to settle for making seven figures while playing a significant role on a defense that should be pretty darn good.
