DMN Blog: Spencer's soft hands
Rookie OLB Anthony Spencer's interception in the Saturday morning session might have been the most impressive play in either minicamp.
Spencer, the Cowboys' first-round pick, displayed phenomenal athleticism for a 6-3, 260-pound dude. He was rushing full speed when Tony Romo, who was rolling right, cocked his arm to throw. Spencer stopped on a dime about a yard or two in front of Romo and skied into the air. It'd have been impressive if Spencer just batted the ball down.
But Spencer snatched the ball out of the air without even bobbling it, showing off amazingly soft hands for a guy who didn't have a pick in his college career.
"I got lucky," said Spencer, who did play some tight end in high school.
Spencer wasn't so modest when I asked whether Romo would have run him down: "Oh, no way. I was gone."
