TRICKBLUE'S ZONE RECAP
Mick:
* I am in the Alamodome right now. They just opened the gates and fans are flooding in to get the good seats. It's been raining here all day, so bring an umbrella if you are coming. It's a good thing there is a dome here as it is been very wet here for the past couple of weeks. Also bring a long sleeve shirt and pants as it is very cold in here.
* One hour from now we will get it going. Still no word if they have signed Spencer or Marten. The problem with Spencer is that players in front of him hasn't signed. Things are really dragging this year on first rounders. Not sure why. There is a rookie cap and the players will be slotted. There is only so much money to go around.
* Definite no shows besides the draft picks are OL Adams and Columbo. Both continue to work on their rehab. They are trying to make sure Adams is in good football shape. Columbo had the scope three weeks ago. They are not rushing him as he has had knee issues before. It was not a serious scope. Stanback is still recovering from the Lisfrank and he developed shin splints during his rehab. They are being extra cautious with these gys. Alonzo Coleman has a sprained ankle and will likely not be practicing today.
* Jerry said this is the start of a new era yesterday. This is not the start of a new era from scratch. This team played well last year for ¾ of the season. This is not a teardown/rebuild. There should be some optimism with this team. Just look at this team from last time we were in SA, 2002. It is much better from a player standpoint. Bill had one Probowler, Glover. It had 7 last year. This team scored 217 points in 2002. Last year they scored 425 points. That is a significant improvement.
* I went back and looked at some of the starters when Parcells took over. Many of them are not only on another team, they aren't even in the league anymore. The team Bill took over hadn't had a winning season since 1998. This team has had two winning seasons in a row; the first since 1995.
* Phillips needs to take this team to the next step. it might be difficult, but at least he has something to work with unlike Parcells did. He thinks he has something to prove and he is very motivated and says he feels young.
