Shanahan chats with Romo; Broncos endure Texas heat

Associated Press - August 15, 2007 6:05 PM ET

IRVING, Texas (AP) - Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo -- as a free agent rookie -- turned down twice as much money to go to Denver.

Romo could have played for coach Mike Shanahan -- a fellow Eastern Illinois alumnus.

But this week, they're on the field together as Denver and Dallas work out at Valley Ranch.

Shanahan and Romo visited briefly today.

After two practices in the sweltering heat, Denver and Dallas will work together in two more sessions tomorrow. The teams play a preseason game Saturday night at Texas Stadium.

Also:

Shanahan had no update on the status of Gerard Warren, the 7-year veteran defensive tackle the Broncos are trying to trade, and will likely release if they can't make a deal.

Warren didn't make the trip to Monday's game at San Francisco, and isn't with the team in Texas.

Because of the heat, the scheduled two-hour morning session was shortened about 30 minutes. The afternoon workout had already been pushed back an hour later in the day. Neither team reported any heat-releated problems.
