Dallas Cowboys Play Giants' Sunday

The Hutch Report
by Mark Hutcherson

For a true blue NFL football fan, nothing is more exciting than the first game of the regular season. Sunday night, the Dallas Cowboys' will take on their division rival the New York Giants. I have tried so hard to get excited about the 2007 Dallas Cowboys' season, but as much as I try it is hard for me to see Jerry Jones' team going all the way under head coach Wade Phillips. Maybe it is just because I do not know enough about Wade Phillips or maybe it is because I know way too much about Jerry Jones?

I still remember the first days after Jerry Jones' bought the Dallas Cowboys and hired as his first head coach Jimmy Johnson. When Jones' bought the Dallas Cowboys' they have been in a multi year slump under the direction of the late coach Tom Landry. Even though Tom Landry was not coaching a winning team, he deserved better than to be fired by the new team owner, Jerry Jones', via a news conference instead of in person. I have always felt that Jerry Jones' was not qualified to even carry the water of former coach Tom Landry, but just because God had blessed him with the knowledge of how to earn huge sums of money he felt entitled to treat a "Hall of Fame" coach worse than a dog.

Now Dallas Cowboys' fans are facing yet another rebuilding year because the team owner is not satisfied with just owning and running the team, he really wants to coach the team as well. While Wade Phillips' might be a good man and coach, he will have to prove himself to me and millions of other fans that have grown tired of the decisions made by team owner Jerry Jones. I remember what Jerry Jones' said after Bill Parcells left the team. He said something to the effect that he was not going to pay a new coach much money and what that says to me is that Jerry Jones' does not really want a winning Dallas Cowboys' team, unless he can control everything and everyone on that team.
