DMN Blog: Witten has shot at NFL history
Jason Witten already owns the team records for catches (87) and receiving yards (980) in a season by a tight end, setting them in 2004. He has a chance to break the NFL TE receiving records this season.
Witten has 42 catches for 540 yards, putting him on pace for a 96-catch, 1,234-yard season. Kansas City's Tony Gonzalez set the TE catches record with 102 in 2004. San Diego's Kellen Winslow, the father of the Browns' soldier, set the yardage mark with 1,290 in 1980.
Witten is on pace for nine touchdown catches, which would tie the team record for TEs set by Billy Joe DuPree in 1978. San Diego's Antonio Gates set the NFL record with 13 in 2004.
