Former Cowboys Calvin Hill, Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson and Harvey Martin (posthumously) are among 11 athletes and coaches who will be inducted into the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2007.
Hill was a four-time Pro Bowl running back with the Cowboys (1969-74) and is currently a consultant for player development with the club. Henderson played five seasons in Dallas (1975-79) and was a Pro Bowl linebacker in 1979. Martin was a four-time Pro Bowl defensive end who earned co-MVP honors with Randy White in Super Bowl XII during his 10-year (1973-83) career. He died in 2001.
"It's a real honor. I am especially pleased to be going in with Harvey and Hollywood," Hill said. "Harvey was a young teammate who became a great player.
"Hollywood sent me a tape years ago that I use a lot. He has a magnificent testimony about substance abuse, his journey and how he recovered."
Joining Hill, Henderson and Martin will be Derek Harper (Dallas Mavericks), Michael Williams (Dallas Carter and Baylor basketball All-American), Nolan Richardson (former Arkansas basketball coach), Larry Centers (Arizona Cardinals), Roosevelt Leaks (University of Texas, Buffalo Bills running back), Beverly Humphrey (Prairie View track and Lancaster coach), Dr. Thurmin Robins (Southern University swimmer) and inaugural "Rube Foster" award recipient Kedric Couch (Dallas Carter coach and DISD athletic director).
The banquet will be December 1 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas.
