Romo unchanged by contract
A liberal dose
November 05, 2007
PHILADELPHIA -- Tony Romo knew the expectations would change once he signed the contract, but that the contract wouldn't change him.
He admits, though, that he's waiting for his six-year, $67.5 million contract to change one single, tangible detail in his life.
'I wish some cute girl would come up to me and say, 'Hey, you're rich, let's hang out,'' Romo said, tongue planted firmly in cheek.
Dating life aside, not much appears to have changed about Romo on the field, either.
In his first game since signing his contract extension, Romo played like the same player whose performance inspired his boss to give him the 'franchise quarterback' commitment.
Against an Eagles defense that harassed and hounded him last December, Romo was his usual, effective self as the Cowboys shredded Philadelphia 38-17 Sunday night.
'He has a year under his belt, and with training camp, he's going to feel more comfortable back there,' receiver Terrell Owens said.
Romo and his offense were so comfortable that by the middle of the third quarter, many of the Eagles fans began leaving. And the slow exodus turned into retreat when Romo completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jason Witten with 4:28 remaining in the third quarter.
For the night, Romo completed 20 of 25 passes for 324 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception.
This was the same defense that ranked third in the NFL in sacks and promised to harass him all night. Romo wasn't sacked once by the Eagles and said after the game it was the best performance of the season by the offensive line.
This was also pretty much the same defense that on Christmas Day last year did all of the above, kept him from completing 50 percent of his passes and forced him into two interceptions.
'What I am trying to do is execute every play,' said Romo, who increased his team record of 300-yard passing games in a single season to five. His eighth career 300-yard game is the third-most in team history.
'I'm just learning. One thing I feel that I can do is adapt; try to process it and learn from it and not throw it to any Eagles.'
Done and done.
300-PLUS GAMES
