DMN Blog: Jerry mum on Pacman
by Albert Breer
We've been all over the Pacman Jones story this week. But Jerry Jones doesn't plan on doing much more talking on the embattled corner's fight to get back in the league.
While saying that Pacman did take a physical -- off-site, per the terms of his suspension, which keep him off the Cowboys' Valley Ranch grounds -- the owner/GM declined to guess on when his new cornerback will actually be available to him.
"I think the commissioner will, at some point, evaluate where this thing has gone with Adam over the last several months and we'll see where that goes from there," Jones said. "It's his (Goodell) decision-making but I'm not going to speculate there."
Jerry was excited to see Pacman (We'll go with first names, so as not to confuse the Joneses, from here) was interacting with teammate's at Jason Witten's charity bowling event, and said that it was consistent with what he's heard about the ex-Titan.
"People who've coached him, who've been around him, know he's a good teammate and that's a plus," Jerry said. "He's a hard worker and that's a plus. And that's going to help him bond. My experience with his teammates and his coaching staff and, frankly, with (myself) is if you work hard and you get it and you know you're going to have to act right to be able to play for the Cowboys and in the NFL, that's usually a pretty good combination."
There's a chance going forward that Jerry could be putting his neck even further out on the line in taking a risk on bringing Pacman in.
Talk has the commissioner readying to institute policies that will punish teams for player misconduct, most likely with fines following incidents. Jerry said he's all for that.
"I certainly am sensitive and concerned about the behavior of our players," Jerry said. "We have high visibility as a team, and bad decisions off the field, bad behavior off the field gets way more interest than I want it to. That's a big consideration of mine when I make these decisions. I think what (the proposal) does recognize is that we're all in this together and if someone on any team has something that gets bad publicity, it reflects on everybody, on the players and on the other parts of the team and league."
Jerry also mentioned that he doesn't anticipate having to be present for any Pacman-Goodell summits concerning reinstatement.
One more thing -- For all the people out there that have campaigned to recast young Mr. Jones as "Adam", he is listed as "Pacman" on the roster.
