DMN Blog: Jerry wants T.O. and Glenn to teach
by Albert Breer
Good news for Sam Hurd, Miles Austin, Isaiah Stanback and the rest of the young receivers on the Cowboys roster. Terrell Owens in his 13th year. So is Terry Glenn.
And according to owner/GM Jerry Jones, there's no better teachers the young guys could have than the older veterans. Which is part of the reason why Jones remains undaunted in his strong feelings about the Hurds and Austins and Stanbacks on the team.
"I'm reminded that Michael Irvin told me that he learned more from Kelvin Martin, the experienced receiver, than anybody else that had talked to him about being a receiver," Jones said. "I know that that kind of tutoring, stewardship, teammate activity is very helpful, can be very effective. Terrell Owens and his experience, and Terry Glenn and his experience, and really Patrick Crayton when you look at how he evolved from being a quarterback to a receiver, I think you look at all of that, there's a wealth of information and education that our young receivers can get.
"And the makeup of our receiving corps, the veterans we've got and the young receivers, lends itself to that. I'm proud of it, I'm excited about it, I know it's going to be helpful. So I don't take it as a given, but in a way I would expect that."
