FWST Blog: No interest in Beck, yet
by Clarence E. Hill Jr.
According to a Miami Herald report, the Cowboys have expressed interest in Dolphins second-year quarterback John Beck.
And that the Cowboys were willing to part with a low round pick.
It's true that the Cowboys have been evaluating Beck in anticipation of him being the odd man out in Miami following the acquisition of former Jets quarterback Chad Pennington.
But, according to a team source, the Cowboys done nothing more than evaluate. The source said the Dolphins contacted them to gauge the team's interest in Beck.
And, according to the source, the Cowboys have none at the moment.
Now that could change as cut down day approaches. But the source said if the Cowboys do make a move for Beck it would more likely be for a player who is not going to make the Cowboys roster rather than a draft pick.
The Cowboys have made no secret of their interest in finding a young backup quarterback to groom as Tony Romo's understudy for the future.
Brad Johnson will be the backup this season. Third quarterback Richard Bartel has not shown enough for the Cowboys to project him into that role.
