Romo focused as Cowboys wrap up California camp

Associated Press - August 12, 2008 7:55 PM ET

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) - Dallas quarterback Tony Romo was signing autographs today before the team's final practice in California -- when somebody handed him a helmet.

Without breaking stride, the Cowboys Pro Bowler penned his name with a black marker -- onto his own helmet.

What Romo didn't realize was that an equipment manager had given him the helmet for practice.

Dallas wrapped up its Oxnard, California, camp with a nearly two-hour workout before heading East, with a stop in Denver for workouts with the Broncos.

The teams play a pre-season game Saturday night.

The 0-1 Cowboys then finish the pre-season at home.

The Cowboys say more than 76,000 fans attended the 24 workouts spread out over 2 1/2 weeks in Oxnard.

Also:

Linebacker Anthony Spencer (sore knee) was held out of practice for the second straight day, but he's expected to practice against Denver.

Cornerback Terence Newman (groin) is making good progress, but the Cowboys say he likely won't practice or play this week.
