Smith
Why did it take me so long to figure out how to lure Panthers fans to the NFC East blog? Ever since posting an entry that Panthers officials were so disappointed with Steve Smith's latest episode that they'd at least, behind closed doors, discussed the idea of trading him, Carolina fans have hammered me at every turn.

So do I take it back? Not on your life. The reasoning I keep hearing for the discussion never taking place is that management said it didn't happen.

So did you guys actually expect Panthers management to come out waving their hands in the air saying, "We did it! The blogger from Dallas caught us."

One of the other things your "bored columnist" (yes, I read your comments) wrote was that the Cowboys would be interested in Smith. Was that just a convenient team to throw out there because owner Jerry Jones covets another star wide receiver?

Well that and the fact that Jones' son, Stephen, admitted to placing a call to an executive-level member of the Panthers' front office Tuesday, as reported by Randy Galloway in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

I don't usually engage in this back-and-forth stuff because it doesn't really accomplish much, but I don't sit around making things up just to promote discussion.

Now, go about your day in peace.
