Without Glenn, Hurd Hopes To Step Into Lineup

Cowboys training camp opened up last week, and it did so with a goodbye to a veteran. Terry Glenn was cut on the first day of camp, and that means there's a receiver spot open. Sam Hurd is one of those players hoping that means his catches go up. Hurd's a third-year player, who caught nineteen passes and a touchdown last season. Now with the veteran off the depth chart, Hurd hopes to earn his way into a starting role.

"It gives me a chance," Hurd said. "It advances my chance of being the third receiver, so that the quarterback and coaching staff have faith in me, so they can put me out there on Sunday."

Cowboys Headlines:

Flozell Adams sat out the morning workouts, as did Marc Columbo. The tackles were not hurt, coach Wade Phillips just said he plans to spell his veterans during camp.

Meanwhile on the D-line, Marcus Spears has been working at nose guard, and not just at his normal end spot. Jay Ratliff, who played nose last year, has been moved back to end. Phillips said he wants to be versatile.

Cowboys fans want the Super Bowl, but Jerry Jones said that's not where Phillip's job security lies. He said it wasn't a thought to him, when asked if Wade Phillips not winning the Super Bowl would cost him his job.
