Cowboys happy with win, look to improve

A day after the Dallas Cowboys less than impressive 31-22 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, head coach Wade Phillips wasn't about to change his view of the game.
"Somebody else can say, 'hey this wasn't good enough or that wasn't good enough,' but it was good enough to win and that's what we're here to do," Phillips said. "And that's what we've done and I think that's what we'll continue to do."
Phillips praised his offensive line which helped the running game pick up 198 yards and praised the defense for coming up with great plays at opportune times.
But even the players realized it wasn't their best day.
"Substandard," is how defensive lineman Marcus Spears described the game. "We're making too many mistakes on both sides of the ball, but at the end of the day, we were able to overcome it."
"I said their 0-4 and they were a wounded animal," said defensive tackle Tank Johnson. "Those are the most dangerous type of teams to play. I thought they were going to go for it on more fourth downs, fake more punts, all that stuff, but I was expecting anything. I wasn't surprised that they came out like that."
No matter what the situation, Phillips says he likes to coach with a positive attitude, even if he comes across as a softie.
"That's alright," Phillips said, "as long as we win."
"You have to be positive," said linebacker Bradie James, "Because it's such a long season there is no need for us to beat ourselves up, you know, we got people that can do that for us."
So while the Cowboys did improve to 4- 1, it wasn't the kind of win that their fans were expecting. And it wasn't the kind of win that will generate much confidence for a team heading into week six.
