DMN Blog: Felix Jones bothered by toe injury

by Todd Archer

During the bye week, Felix Jones suffered a toe injury while rehabbing from his torn hamstring that could keep the rookie running back out even longer, according to multiple sources.

Jones practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday for the first time in a month it doesn't mean he is close to playing.

Coach Wade Phillips did not sound optimistic the rookie running back would play Sunday against San Francisco but he and owner and general manager Jerry Jones would not disclose the nature the newest injury.

Sources said the injury happened during a rehab session in the bye week when Felix Jones lost his footing while making a cut.

"There is more," than the hamstring, Jones coyly said. "We're going out there to see what more is and the degree of more. That's why he's out practicing. We're trying to see if he can play at full strength."

During the portion of practice that was open to the media Wednesday, Felix Jones went through individual drills but did not take part in the few team snaps.

"I didn't get a good feel that he would or wouldn't," play Sunday, Phillips said. "There's some things that came up during his rehab but we're working on those to see."

With the Cowboys next two games separated by five days Phillips said he might consider resting Felix Jones until the Dec. 7 game at Pittsburgh.

"All of those things are possible certainly depending on his injury," Phillips said, "and what we think we can do with it."
