DMN Blog: If Cowboys want Dom Capers, they better act quickly
by Tim MacMahon
The Cowboys almost hired Dom Capers as a consultant, aka defensive coordinator in waiting, last off-season. Capers turned down the job after Brian Stewart, who had worked under Capers in Houston, stated he wouldn't be comfortable with his former boss on the Cowboys' coaching staff.
Well, Stewart's comfort at Valley Ranch is clearly no longer an issue. But that doesn't mean Capers will be working for the Cowboys soon.
He's in Green Bay today interviewing to become the Packers defensive coordinator. He could also end up in St. Louis with Jason Garrett, who would have hired Capers if Garrett accepted head coaching offers in Baltimore or Atlanta last year.
Todd Archer has identified three defensive coordinator candidates: Cowboys secondary coach Dave Campo, Cowboys defensive line coach Todd Grantham and ex-Saints defensive coordinator/ex-Cowboys LB coach Gary Gibbs.
