DMN Blog: What should be first on Dan Reeves' agenda?
by Brian Davis
What should Reeves' first (or second) priority be?
Should Reeves teach Wade Phillips and his coaching staff how create more team harmony? This is much more than just "cracking the whip." That would serve no real purpose. Hopefully, Reeves the consultant would help the Cowboys change the systemic problems in the locker room. Frankly, I don't see Reeves' role as one who determines whether T.O. goes or stays. That's up to Jerry Jones and Phillips. But Reeves should help Phillips and Jason Garrett figure out a way to help T.O. coexist should the receiver stay.
Should Reeves summon Tony Romo to his office for some serious Come to Jesus meetings. That conversation probably starts with Reeves offering up this opening salvo: "Um, Tony, do you know John Elway." Heck, get Elway on the phone for a conference call. As much as we all love Staubach and Aikman, now that Reeves is on board, the Cowboys should have access to a third Hall of Famer.
Update: Check that. Turns out Reeves and Elway hate each other. Well, that's certainly problematic. Maybe time has healed all wounds?
To me, these seem like the top two issues confronting the Cowboys. Reeves can address the other issues later: keeping Greg Ellis happy/cutting him loose, how to juggle the running backs, how to get Roy Williams more involved, etc.
So what should be No. 1 on the Dan Reeves' agenda?
