Friday is the deadline for NFL restricted free agents to sign offer sheets elsewhere before their exclusive rights revert back to their original teams.
The Cowboys’ two remaining restricted free agents, wide receivers Miles Austin and Sam Hurd, haven’t signed their one-year, $1.545 million tenders yet, but there’s a good chance they will by the end of the week.
Austin visited the Jets last week, but reports out of New York say the Jets decided not to make him an offer and instead retain their second-round pick, the required compensation if the Cowboys chose not to match an offer sheet for their fourth-year receiver.
The Cowboys likely would’ve matched any reasonable offer, since Austin figures to be an important part of their offense without Terrell Owens.
Hurd, who’s coming off a season-ending ankle injury, hasn’t had any nibbles in free agency, but the Cowboys clearly valued him as well by giving him the second-round level tender.
Offensive lineman Cory Procter and defensive end Stephen Bowen already have signed their $1.545 million tenders. Tight end Tony Curtis did not receive a tender, making him a free agent.
