Cowboys breaking even half-way
by Associated Press
BREAKING EVEN HALFWAY:@ Since the NFL went to 16-game schedules
in 1978, this is only the third time in a season not interrupted by
a players' strike that Dallas has been 4-4.
The last time was 1999, when the Cowboys were a wild-card team
after finishing the regular season 8-8 and lost their playoff game.
That was the only time they went from 4-4 to the playoffs. The
Cowboys went from 4-4 to 6-10 in 1997.
"I know the deal this time of the year with what our record
is," coach Bill Parcells said. "I've seen enough evidence. I know
we can play well. I've seen it. ... I'm not disappointed in
anything but our record."
Counting all 47 seasons in team history, this is only their
sixth 4-4 record. The others were in 1961, 1974 and 1987.
During the 1987 season, when one game was canceled because of a
strike, the Cowboys finished 7-8. The Cowboys were 0-5-1 their last
six games after their 4-4 start in 1961, and missed the playoffs
with an 8-6 record in 1974.<
