Henry says switching to safety isn't likely
COWBOYS NOTES
By MAC ENGEL
IRVING -- Anthony Henry hasn't been asked about moving to safety. At least not recently, he said.
The Cowboys cornerback said the subject of moving positions was discussed during the off-season, but that he feels a move isn't likely.
"It came up," Henry said. "As far as it being something they wanted me to do, I would have done it. But I think that's taken care of with the addition of Ken Hamlin, Pat Watkins in his second year, and we have Keith Davis."
Henry is coming off an injury-plagued second season with the Cowboys. In his first season, a pulled groin morphed into a lower abdominal strain. Last season, it was his knee.
"As a cornerback, the knee is obviously important," Henry said. "But if it was really that bad, I would have had surgery."
Williams at linebacker
Despite having a surplus of linebackers, the Cowboys tried safety Roy Williams in that position briefly in practice Sunday.
It could be a move to try and use Williams closer to the line of scrimmage.
Dealing with tragedy
Cowboys defensive back Aaron Glenn did not look at the return to football as a relief for what turned out to be a tragic off-season.
His niece, Tynesha Stewart, was murdered last month in Humble. The 19-year-old was a Texas A&M student.
"I have a strong family. We have a way of dealing with things," Glenn said. "My family has seen a lot and been through a lot. I'm not going to say that football is going to be the end of all end and to keep me away from stuff."
Rivera stays mum
Veteran guard Marco Rivera, who is coming off back surgery for the second time in as many off-seasons and is not participating in this minicamp, was vague about his status.
When asked his thoughts about his possible retirement or return, Rivera said, "I'm kinda enjoying all the twists and turns."
No more holds
Tony Romo has lost his job.
"He is a former holder here," Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said.
Romo will be replaced as the holder not because he botched the snap at Seattle but because he's the starting quarterback.
New special teams coach Bruce Read said backup quarterback Brad Johnson, punter Mat McBriar and receiver Jerheme Urban are being tried as holders. All three have experience as holders.
Number changes
Linebacker Akin Ayodele has changed to No. 51, defensive lineman Montavious Stanley will wear No. 92, and receiver Miles Austin will wear 19.
Ayodele made the switch to the uniform number he wore when he was with the Jaguars.
Davis misses practice
Guard Leonard Davis was excused from practice Sunday for personal reasons.
