DMN Blog: Roy would rather talk about this season
Pro Bowl safety Roy Williams chatted with the Valley Ranch media horde for the first time this spring. He didn't feel like reminiscing about last season.
"Last year was the past," Williams said. "Last year was last year. Why reflect on last year?"
Williams would much rather discuss his role in Wade Phillips' scheme. He's essentially a linebacker in the Cowboys' new dime package, and Williams won't spend near as much time backpedaling on first and second down as in the past.
He said he looks forward to making more tackles for losses. He had only two TFLs in each of the last two seasons after totaling 18 in his first three seasons.
"The difference is when I am closer to the ball rather than being deep," he said. "I can beat a lineman to a certain point instead of being 15 yards back, where I have to run and stop my momentum, then try to get around them."
